The Division of Behavioral & Communication Sciences seeks to facilitate behavioral and psychosocial research among faculty at UT Southwestern and affiliated institutions, and conducts independent research in behaviors associated with health outcomes and communications intended to promote health behavior changes.

Division Chief:
Celette Sugg Skinner, PhD
Dr. Skinner is a behavioral scientist expert in communications intended for disease prevention and health promotion. Her projects include tests of an innovative DVD to promote mammogram use and CRC screening, and an in-clinic touch-screen computer program to facilitate risk appraisal. Dr. Skinner is currently funded by three NIH R01 grants (see faculty profile for details).

Faculty:
Ira Bernstein, PhD
Dr. Bernstein is an experienced psychometrician who provides consultations on measurement, scale development, application, validation, and analysis.  He is currently consulting on projects that include education for pediatric cancer survivors.  Dr. Bernstein is also adjointly appointed at the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Anna Brandon, PhD
Dr. Brandon is experienced in psychotherapeutic approaches specific to pre and post partum depression.  Her open-series study, Partner-Assisted Therapy (PAT) for Depression During Pregnancy, is currently recruiting pregnant women experiencing depression.  She also provides multidisciplinary support in the acquisition and implementation of psychiatric and psychological assessment measures

Jasmin Tiro, PhD
Dr. Tiro’s program of research focuses on understanding and promoting the appropriate use of health behaviors to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality.  Her research interests include HPV vaccine and cancer screening.  Dr. Tiro’s HPV research is funded, in part, by a grant from the Commercial Real Estate Women’s (CREW) foundation.  Dr. Tiro is also adjointly appointed at the University of Texas School of Public Health.
