Being told you have cancer can be very frightening. UT Southwestern Medical Center’s physicians in gynecologic oncology are aware of this and offer comprehensive care to women diagnosed with cancer of the reproductive organs, including uterine cancer and endometrial cancer. Most women are referred for consultation and evaluation by their gynecologist or primary care doctor due to abnormal test results. Our team of specialists in women's care evaluates each patient to determine whether they have cancer and if so, what treatment is best for them.
Among the treatment options are a broad range of pelvic, abdominal and reconstructive surgeries, conventional chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, and experimental therapies.
Some women with known malignancies are invited to enroll in clinical trials, including:
- Novel chemotherapy treatment plans for primary or recurrent cancer;
- Ovarian cancer screening; and
- Newly developed biologic agents to treat cancers.
Care does not stop with treatment of the cancer itself. Our gynecologic oncologists are also concerned about their patients' nutrition, psychological and social adjustment, and pain control. They work with other specialists at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center to help women through this difficult stage in their lives.
