UT Southwestern Medical Center physicians take complex medical information about macular degeneration and describe it to patients in easy-to-understand terms. In addition, we also offer patients access to educational materials that will help them to learn more about macular degeneration and why they are candidates for the treatment prescribed.
In many cases, UT Southwestern health professionals provide low vision training so that patients can lead independent lives. People with vision loss will benefit from learning how to use low-vision appliances, such as:
- Biotic telescope lenses;
- Digital viewing systems; and
- An electronic magnifier mouse.
Patient education can make a significant difference in how patients approach macular degeneration. In addition to access to UT Southwestern’s health-care professionals, patients may consult other educational materials to better understand what to expect before, during and after treatment.
