With cataracts, the normally clear lens of the eye gets cloudy. UT Southwestern Medical Center, one of the nation’s most prominent medical and research facilities, offers advanced cataract treatments delivered with thorough patient care. Specialists are leaders in cataract removal, caring for thousands of patients per year.
The Cataract Program’s ophthalmologists and cataract surgeons work closely together, along with researchers, to leverage the most effective medical technologies. UT Southwestern was one of the first to receive the ReSTOR lens, a surgically implanted lens that replaces the natural lens after cataract removal. These lenses can correct farsightedness, near-sightedness and presbyopia, an aging-related condition that causes people to need reading glasses or bifocals. UT Southwestern also employs the latest cataract removal systems, such as Aqualase, and surgical tools, including Ozil and the Xenon microscope to improve surgical illumination.
Patients in UT Southwestern’s clinical trials program receive therapies years before they become available to the public. Patients should ask their doctor if they are candidates for some of these groundbreaking therapies.
