UT Southwestern Medical Center offers expert and compassionate care for infants and children with ear, nose and throat (ENT) disorders, including deviated septums, ear infections, rhinitis, sinusitis and tonsillitis. Our pediatric ENT program also provides reconstructive surgery for children who have been born without one or both ears.
For children three years of age and older with severe to profound sensorineural hearing impairment, UT Southwestern has the advanced diagnostic resources to accurately determine whether children may benefit from a cochlear implant or specialized hearing aids. Our program also provides a comprehensive rehabilitation program for children after they receive their assisted-hearing device.
Our specialists look forward to meeting with our pediatric patients and their families, and providing caring and effective treatments to meet children’s total heath care needs. The pediatric ENT health care services offered at UT Southwestern include the following areas of specialization:
Ear
- Infections of the outer, middle or inner ear
- Congenital, traumatic or infectious conditions involving the ear
- Surgical and medical care for chronic diseases of the ear such as cholesteatomas
- Middle ear reconstructive surgery to restore mechanical hearing
- Audiologic testing for all ages of children from birth to age 18, including standard hearing testing, otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing
- Management of hearing and balance disorders
- Cochlear implantation
Nose
- Removal of adenoids
- Surgical and medical treatment of chronic sinusitis
- Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS)
Throat
- Removal of tonsils (tonsillectomy) related to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and recurrent infections
- Evaluation and treatment of voice disorders
- Endoscopic examination of air, food and sinus passages
- Surgical and medical treatment of diseases of the larynx and trachea, including subglottic stenosis and tracheotomy
- Evaluation and treatment of infectious, congenital and neoplastic head and neck masses, including the lymph nodes and thyroid gland
